Nikki works with Elizabeth, the Professional Organizer #10

Today’s post is all about makeup safety with tips for how long to keep things.
Nikki and Elizabeth have been organizing her bathroom counters. Many of the makeup items seem to be old and Elizabeth is concerned about their safety. She shows Nikki an article about makeup expiration times from the All About Dry Eye blog.

The article states that, unless marked with an expiration date, most makeup products will last between six months and a year.

The chart below, from the article, lists benchmarks for how long products will last.
Mascara 3 months
Liquid Foundation and concealer 6 to 12 months
Cream Blush and Eye Shadow 6 to 12 months
Powder Blush and Eye Shadow 1 year
Eyeliner and Lipliner Pencils up to 2 years
Liquid Eye Liner 6 Months or less
Lipstick 1 year
Moisturizers and Skin Care 1 – 2 years

As she went through her makeup Nikki realized that much of it was long past its useful life and could, in fact, be dangerous to use near her eyes. Those items were put in the trash.
To see if Nikki is learning how to sort, Elizabeth asks her what categories they should use to sort the remaining items. Nikki immediately answered, every day and special occasion, earning a high five from Elizabeth. They put the special occasion things into a container to be put away so Nikki won’t have to hunt through them to find what she needs everyday.
Read the continuing story and learn along with Nikki as she and Elizabeth, the Professional Organizer, get her house organized room by room.
